Recent Statistics Show Face and Chest Most Popular Sites for Plastic Surgery
According to statistics released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the year 2007 showed that the most common plastic surgery procedures, for both men and women, were those of the face and chest.
Nationwide facial procedures like the Phoenix facelift increased 14% for women and 16 percent for men from 2006. Similarly, chest procedures like Phoenix breast augmentation for women increased 6% and pectoral implants for men increased 8%. Further, reconstructive breast reduction for women increased 2%, which is a significant difference from the 9% decrease reported last year. Male breast reduction increased 7%.
ASPS President Richard A. D’Amico, MD said that “while 91% of plastic surgery procedures are performed on women and 9% are performed on men, it is interesting to see the rate of increase is comparable in both.”
Further, non surgical cosmetic procedures for the face increased considerably for both women and men. Radiesse™ increased 123% for women and 134% for men, laser skin resurfacing increased 32% for both women and men, Restylane®, Hylaform®, Hylaform Plus® and Juvederm™ increased 35% for women and 24%, and Botox® increased 14% for women and 4% for men.
Board-certified Phoenix plastic surgeon Dr. Geoffrey Leber is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons who completed his aesthetic plastic surgery fellowship in Beverly Hills, California, takes part in collecting statistics through his Phoenix cosmetic surgery practice. ASPS procedural statistics are gathered through the first online national database for plastic surgery procedures, Tracking Operations and Outcomes for Plastic Surgeons (TOPS). This data, combined with the annual survey sent to American Board of Medical Specialties certified physicians most likely to perform plastic surgery, results in the most comprehensive census on plastic surgery procedures.
